#05 Women, Life, Freedom: Iran's disturbing revolution and its transnational dynamics
Shownotes
Exactly one year ago, Jina (Mahsa) Amini was killed after being arrested by the hijab police in Iran. On her burial, protests began in the Iran Kurdistan region and spread throughout the country: a feminist revolution. The world public looked on and admired the courage. Many women still refuse to wear their obligatory headscarves publicly, and different forms of resistance are going on, but the regime's harshness has also been revealed again. Torture, death, intimidation. And global interest has also waned. In this episode, Simon talks to Dr. Nader Talebi, an expert on revolutions and the Middle East, about Iran and the ongoing revolution. He is a co-founder of MERGE and works in the TRANSMIT project on migration in the Middle East. Accompanied the episode by revolution music.
